Trading network Liquidnet to make splash in Asia

HONG KONG (Reuters) - Electronic marketplace Liquidnet will begin matching institutional buyers and sellers of Asian stocks from April 2007 in a move that could shake up the regions traditional exchange industry.
Asia-focused mutual funds and hedge funds are becoming increasingly reliant on electronic trading, which puts a premium on processing trades as quickly as possible, said David Klinger, the new managing director of privately-held Liquidnet Asia.

UN NGO Section launches Asia-Pacific regional network in Beijing
The United Nations NGO (non-governmental organizations) Section launched its Asia-Pacific regional network in Beijing Friday.

LMEs extended trading hours may boost metal trade in Asia
Metal trading in Asia will get a boost with London Metal Exchange extending the trading hours on its electronic trading platform, LME Select, by six hours from June 1. This will improve price transparency and increased arbitrage opportunities, industry officials said.
LME Select now opens six hours early, from 0530 IST to 2330. This move, analysts said, will improve liquidity on Asian exchanges as traders will be able to trade simultaneously on LME, on real time basis.

The Ericsson-Nokia rat race in Asia is turning out to be an interesting one. Almost every week recently, either Swedens Ericsson (News - Alert) or its Scandinavian rival, Finlands Nokia (News - Alert), has announced major tie-ups in the region.

Dollar Flat Against Yen in Asia
The dollar was flat against the yen in Asia Tuesday after overnight data showed that U.S. sales of existing homes fell for a fifth consecutive month in August, further indications of a slowdown.
The U.S. dollar was trading at 116.50 yen on the Tokyo foreign exchange market at 3 p.m. (0600 GMT) Tuesday, edging up from 116.48 yen from late Monday in New York. The euro fell to US$1.2750 from US$1.2757.
