Asia shares mixed in morning trade
Asian benchmarks were mixed in early trading Wednesday, with Japans Nikkei Average little changed.
Tokyos benchmark got some support from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. following reports the company has been chosen to develop the countrys first domestically produced passenger jet in a government-subsidized program.
The Nikkei 225 Average ended the morning session down 22.10 points, or 0.13% at 16,363.86. The broader Topic index was down fractionally at 1,650.61.
Elsewhere around the region, shares in Australia rose 0.1% after the government released figures showing the economy had grown at a slower pace than expected in the second quarter. The Australian Bureau of Statistics said gross domestic product grew just 0.3% in the April to June period, down from 1.9% growth in the year-earlier period.
Shares in Taiwan and South Korea traded flat. In Singapore, the Straits Times Index was up 0.5%. Shanghais Composite Index was up 0.4%.
