Vietnam ranks first at Asia bodybuilding championship
Vietnam bagged five gold medals as well as three silver and one bronze at the Asia Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship, ranking first among the 15 Asian countries and territories competing at the event.
The Republic of Korea and Singapore took the second and the third places, respectively.
Vietnams gold medals were carried off by Nguyen Minh Phong at the 55 kg, Dang Thanh Tung, 60 kg and Nguyen Thu Nguyen, 65kg, of the junior mens weight divisions; Nguyen Thi My Linh at the womens 52 kg weight division and Trinh Phi Hung at the 55 kg master weight division.
Vietnam first-ever silver medal was secured by Pham Ngoc Trang in the fitness event.

Vietnams economic growth rate this year is expected to be the highest among the six major Southeast Asian economies, a leading economic think tank of Thailand forecast Sunday.

More Australians face execution in Asia
Three more Australians are reported to be on death row in Asia following the execution of Nguyen Tuong Van in Singapore on Friday.
The Sunday Telegraph newspaper says Mai Cong Thanh, 46, from Melbourne, and Nguyen Van Chinh, 45, from NSW, are facing death in Vietnam after being convicted of conspiring to smuggle heroin into Australia.
It says they lost their appeals against the death sentence earlier this year, and Foreign Minister Alexander Downer is supporting calls for clemency.

Over 100 dead in Southeast Asia floods
HANOI, Vietnam (UPI) -- More than 100 people have died in heavy flooding across Southeast Asia in recent days as severe storms lashed the region.
Vietnam has been most badly hit. The deaths of six people who drowned in Daklak province, including two children, brought the death toll to 60 in the past 10 days, officials said Wednesday.
The local newspaper Thanh Nien Daily said floods had caused $19 million in damage to homes and crops. Officials said the coffee crop, an important export item, had not been much affected.

S.E. Asia meeting agrees on bird flu action plan
Southeast Asian countries agreed to a bird flu action plan presented by Thailand on Monday aimed at helping its poorer neighbours combat the deadly virus.
Officials from Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar agreed to start implementing the measures, such as surveillance of poultry, next month.

HIV epidemic could hit Asia-Pacific drug users: UN
Asia-Pacific countries risk a full-blown HIV epidemic among drug users unless governments do more to keep youths off drugs and make clean needles available, a UN official said today.
Injecting drug use or IDU fuels at least 70 per cent of HIV transmission in places such as China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar and Vietnam, said Prasada Rao, Asia-Pacific director of UNAIDS, the UN body fighting HIV/AIDS.
