Asia’s richest woman cleared of forging will

Asia’s richest woman, Nina Wang, was yesterday cleared of forging her late husband’s will after an eight-year legal battle against her father-in-law.

Wang, 68 - who has a personal fortune estimated at $2.4bn by Forbes magazine - was earlier this year charged with forging her late husband Teddy’s will.

However, after her September victory in a civil case against her elderly father-in-law, prosecutors announced Friday that three fraud charges against her had been dropped.

Nina’s husband Teddy Wang was kidnapped in 1990 and was nine years later declared dead after no trace of him was ever found. After his disappearance, his wife inherited his fortune.
She built his company, Chinachem, into a a $3.09bn business empire but initially lost a probate battle with her 92-year-old father-in-law who claimed she forged Teddy’s will.

Appeal court judges ruled she had probably forged the will of her late husband and, after the ruling, police investigated the issue and Nina Wang was charged with forgery.

Mayor Celso Lobregat explained at the project launching the basis for branding the Zamboanga as a Latin city is the existence of Chavacano, a derivative of the Spanish language that in turn is an outgrowth of Latin, the old Roman tongue. Chavacano is spoken by a majority of the people here, in Basilan and other parts of the Zamboanga Peninsula.

US to remain engaged in Asia

US to remain engaged in Asia The United States is stepping up its military engagement in the Asia-Pacific region to counter-balance the rise of China, and to confront the threat from terrorism, analysts said on Monday. As the centre of geopolitical gravity shifts from Europe to Asia, Washington is reviewing its security alliances with key Asian partners including Japan, South Korea and Australia, and forging new ties with India and other emerging powers. “What has been clearly seen out of these reviews is that America is not retreating,” said General Paul V Hester, Hawaii-based commander of US Pacific Air Forces. “America is not
