Indian shares follow Asia down on oil; Karachi up
Indian shares fell 1.6 percent on Friday as they tailed the rest of Asia, with investors shaken by the escalating conflict in the Middle East and soaring oil prices trimming their equity exposure.
A fear of monetary tightening after the Japanese central bank raised its interest rates for the first time in six years also weighed on sentiment, said traders.
The BSEs main index, which is up 1.6 percent for the week, ended 1.7 percent lower at 10,678.22 points, but off the days low of 10,563.76 as long-term global investors bought beaten down blue chips.
The 50-share S&P CNX Nifty ended 1.45 percent lower at 3,123.35 points. Losers outpaced winners by 1.3 to 1 in trade of 115.2 million shares.
