Barcelonas Tiger-back ride to Asia

FC BARCELONA, football champions of Europe, are coming to Asia - thanks to Singapores Tiger Beer.

As European football kingpins and proud owners of a domestic double in the 2005-2006 season, Barcelona are now gunning for a strong Asian presence. And they hope to achieve this through agressive strategic tie-ups with partners in China, Japan and South-east Asia, to be formalised this week.

Yesterday, the Catalan team signed a three-year partnership deal with Singapores Tiger Beer. A few more deals in China and Japan are in order by the end of the week.

For a club owned solely by their fans, Barca are on a roll.

Singapores Tiger Airways seeks to block Qantas/Jetstar Asia cooperation Budget carrier Tiger Airways said it has asked the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) to reject a proposed cooperation between Qantas Airways and newly-merged Singapore-based budget carriers Jetstar Asia and Valuair. While Tiger Airways in principle does not object to reasonable cooperation between airlines, it has expressed its concerns about a proposed cooperation agreement between Qantas and Jetstar Asia/Valuair, a spokeman for Tiger Airways said. Asia Roundup: Markets ride on Wall Street gains HONG KONG: Asian stocks managed a solid rebound yesterday following Wall Streets lead as investors resigned themselves to a US rate hike later and hoped for some policy clarity from the US Federal Reserve (Fed), dealers said. They said the gains were encouraging as they suggested investors were calmer about the prospect of higher US interest rates but much would depend on what the Fed had to say on the outlook for monetary policy. TOKYO: Shares rallied 1.58 per cent as bargain hunters scooped up beaten down stocks, encouraged by overnight gains on Wall Street.

It marked the opening with 16 flights, eight in-bound and eight out-bound. Besides Singapore, the destinations included Bangkok, Phuket, Hanoi, Hat Yai, Ho Chi Minh City, Krabi, Macau and Manila. India face tough tour opener Fast bowler Umar Gul was named in a 12-member Pakistan 'A' team to face India in the three-day tour opener at the Bagh-e-Jinnah Stadium in Lahore from January 7 to 9. He took 20 wickets in the just concluded domestic Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and picked five wickets in two games so far in

Asia Roundup: Marts rebound on Wall St gains

Asia Roundup: Marts rebound on Wall St gains Asian stocks rebounded yesterday in a continued roller coaster ride, with investors taking courage from gains on Wall Street after US growth figures suggested the recent panic over interest rates might be overdone. Dealers said it was a relief to see solid gains after the battering the markets have taken over the past few weeks on fears the US Federal Reserve could hike rates further than expected to dampen growth and inflation. Dealers said investors need certainty above all on US interest rates - let them be up, unchanged or down, it does not matter
