Asia-Pacific ophthalmology congress opens in Singapore

The largest ever gathering of eye specialists from the Asia-Pacific region is taking place in Singapore over the next four days.

The 21st Congress of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology has attracted nearly 4,000 delegates from more than 25 countries in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

The meeting was officially opened by Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan at Suntec City.

Singapore last hosted the congress in 1968.

The president of APAO, Professor Yasuo Tano, said its members, who come from a wide spectrum of social, economical, cultural and religious backgrounds, deliver eye care to people comprising more than half of the worlds entire population.

China opens Asia's longest land tunnel railway China has commissioned the Wushaoling tunnel railway, the longest of its kind in Asia and a key facility in the Asia-Europe Land Bridge project in Gansu Province in north-western China.
