KBC-II halts Star Asia revenue growth
The abrupt ending of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC-II) due to anchor Amitabh Bachchans ill-health late last year has affected revenue growth of STAR TV Asia by 6-10%, reveals the latest report from Hong Kong-based research company Media Partners Asia.
While STAR network Asia was cruising at 20-30% revenue growth in first and second quarters of 2005-06 largely thanks to the the healthy advertising growth in STAR India, for the quarter ended March, 2006, the company registered only 14% revenue growth to $123 million.
In Asia, STAR Groups operating income grew 28% year-on-year to reach almost $30 million, while turnover grew 14% to reach $123 million for the quarter, the report said.

Report: Gaming revenue in Asia to increase
Gross revenue from legal casino gambling in Asia will be an estimated $13 billion in 2006, a 20 percent increase over last year, according to a research report.
The report by Globalysis, a Las Vegas-based firm that tracks Asia's casino gaming markets, said the estimate had a margin of error of 10 percent. It attributed the increase largely to new tourist facilities in Macau and "associated increased activity" at the Chinese enclave's renowned gaming centers.

Barclays Capital counts on strong Asia growth
Barclays Capital, the investment banking arm of Barclays , is counting on Asian revenue growth of at least 25 percent a year, Chief Executive Bob Diamond said on Sunday, as the banks overseas businesses now make up about half of its total profits.
Barclays Capital (BarCap) is counting on equity and credit derivatives and commodities businesses to drive a large part of the regions growth, Diamond said at a media briefing.

Asia to replace US as worlds growth driver
Asia is forecast to replace the United States as the key driver of global growth within five years, a published report said on Tuesday.
In five years time, domestic demand growth from Asia will outstrip that of the US, said DBS Bank economist David Carbon in the latest Quarterly Outlook.
The US will no longer be the biggest driver, he said. That role will fall to Asia. Indeed, it already has to a far greater extent than most realize.
