Vietnams growth rate likely leads SE Asia

Vietnams economic growth rate this year is expected to be the highest among the six major Southeast Asian economies, a leading economic think tank of Thailand forecast Sunday.

Vietnam, which is rich in petroleum reserves, could expect a gross domestic products (GDP) jump of 7.6 to 8 percent partly thanks to high oil prices, said the Kasikorn Research Center, an affiliate of Thailands Kasikorn Bank.

The nation would enjoy the highest economic growth in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year, while Thailand will be ranked sixth in the ten- member grouping, said the KSC.

Vietnam, which registered a GDP growth of 8.4 percent last year, is highly dependent on exports, tourism and investments as their growth engines
