Robert Walters profit up on Asia Pacific growth

British recruitment consultancy Robert Walters Plc said annual pretax profit had risen by 57 percent, driven by the Asia Pacific region, and that the market continued to be strong.

Pretax profit for the year to end-December was 12.7 million pounds ($22.2 million), up from 8.1 million pounds a year ago, the company said on Monday.

“It (the profit) is quite a simple story in many ways – it’s just the investment we’ve been making in a lot of new business areas and scaling up existing business areas showing through,” Chief Executive Robert Walters told Reuters.

“All regions traded strongly, with Continental Europe and Asia Pacific in particular showing substantial growth,” Walters said in a statement.

Analysts at Seymour Pierce said, “The full-year 2005 results from Robert Walters were well ahead of market expectations … due largely to a very strong performance in the Asia Pacific region.” They maintained an “Outperform” recommendation.

This in turn should continue the upward rating trend for the region, said S&P in its “Asia-Pacific Sovereign Report Card”. Good global growth and still-ample liquidity conditions will underpin positive credit trends in the region. This trend should be assisted by probable robust GDP growth of 6 per cent in the region, although, there are uncertainties like sustained

eBay looks to Asia for growth

eBay looks to Asia for growth Online auction company eBay said it expects the number of Asia-Pacific users trading on its site to eventually outstrip that for the U.S. and Europe as Internet penetration grows, but it also predicts imminent competition. More than 30 million of the company's 181 million registered users worldwide are in the Asia-Pacific region, Chief Executive Meg Whitman said Thursday. "These are still small markets, but as Internet usage and broadband penetration increase, we see these markets growing bigger than our top markets currently," she said. And in markets like India, the company has seen a rise
