It’s a gas: Oz preferred LNG supplier to Asia, US west coast
AUSTRALIA would be the preferred LNG supplier to Asia and the west coast of the United States for at least the next five years, federal Resources Minister Ian Macfarlane said yesterday, ensuring the nation billions of dollars worth of export revenues.
Speaking to The Australian on his return from an official visit to the US and Mexico, Mr Macfarlane said the oil and gas industry in the US was “very upbeat” about Australia’s prospects of becoming a supplier.
“At the price for natural gas current in the US, there is clearly enough demand to sustain a strong market for Australian LNG,” he said.
Mr Macfarlane had discussions with executives from ExxonMobil, Chevron and ConocoPhillips, and reported they had been very encouraging about the prospects of securing new orders for Australian LNG projects.
