Over 100 dead in Southeast Asia floods
HANOI, Vietnam (UPI) – More than 100 people have died in heavy flooding across Southeast Asia in recent days as severe storms lashed the region.
Vietnam has been most badly hit. The deaths of six people who drowned in Daklak province, including two children, brought the death toll to 60 in the past 10 days, officials said Wednesday.
The local newspaper Thanh Nien Daily said floods had caused $19 million in damage to homes and crops. Officials said the coffee crop, an important export item, had not been much affected.
In Thailand, more than two weeks of heavy rains have killed 35 people in the nation`s south. The Interior Ministry described the floods as the region`s worst in nearly 30 years, affecting more than 700,000 people. Relief agencies are providing clothes, food and blankets to affected residents, the ministry said.
